Metcalf Named Coach of the Year for 12th Time
Vienna girls’ basketball coach, Rick Metcalf, has once again been honored by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) as Coach of the Year for the 2024-2025 school year—marking the 12th time in his career he has received the award.
This season, Metcalf led the Lady Eagles to a dominant 29-3 record. The Lady Eagles also won the City of Metropolis Tournament title, the Eldorado Lady Eagles Midwinter Tournament title, and the 2nd consecutive IHSA 2A Regional Championship, adding to Coach Metcalf’s already impressive coaching résumé. He also achieved a major career milestone by surpassing 700 career wins, placing him among an elite group of high school basketball coaches. Since taking over at Vienna High School, he has amassed a strong 104-37 record, transforming the program into an enduring contender.
"This is, yet another, well deserved award for Coach Metcalf. I know how hard he works at his craft,” commented Vienna Athletic Director, David Hill.
Vienna Superintendent, Dr. Joshua Stafford, shared, “Coach Metcalf has earned the respect of players, peers, and the community alike. His 12th IBCA Coach of the Year award is a reflection not only of this season’s success, but of decades of dedication to the game and to the student-athletes he mentors.”
