Classes

Orientation to Health Occupations (Health Occupation Related Skills)

This course includes classroom and community-based activities. The purpose of this course is to assist students in further development of their self-concept and in matching personal abilities to a tentative career choice. This includes in-depth information into health careers, and the occupational, educational, and attitudinal requirements for those careers. Units of instruction include History of Healthcare, Body Systems, Communication and Problem Solving Skills, Health Career Research, Medical Terminology, Illness and Wellness Concepts, Nutrition, and CPR/First Aid Skills. This core of knowledge will develop the students' cognitive and affective skills in formulating a strong foundation for entry-level skill development. [1 credit - So elective]

Nurse Assisting Class (Health Occupation I and II)

This class includes affective, cognitive, and psychomotor skills which are common to most health occupations. Units of instruction include Healthcare Systems and Resources, Ethics and Legal Aspects, Patient Care Skills, Functioning as a Team Member of the Healthcare Team, and CPR/First Aid. Student performance is practiced and learned in both classroom and clinical experiences. The class is approved by Illinois Department of Public Health and must include a minimum of 135 theory hours and 65 clinical hours. Students who complete the course requirements are eligible to take the CNA Federal Competency Exam. [2 credits - Jr, Sr elective]

Anatomy and Physiology

This class will concentrate on the structure and function of the human body as well as diseases and conditions of the body. The systems covered include muscular, integumentary, circulatory, nervous, skeletal, digestive, reproductive, respiratory, and endocrine. It is a dissecting science class. [1 credit , Sr elective]

Information

I enjoy glfing and I have three children and one granddaughter. My oldest son is a 1999 graduate of Vanderbilt University, and resides in the St. Louis area. My daughter is a 2002 graduate of McKendree College and resides in Belleville, Illinois with her husband and daughter. My youngest son is a student-athlete at Century High School where he is a senior.
