The Vienna High School Media Center offers a collection of approximately 8,000 books and subscriptions to 60 magazines and 7 newspapers. The media center currently has approx. 25 computer work stations available for students, staff and community members. All computers in the media center, adjoining computer lab-where another 30 computers are available-as well as computers in all the classrooms operate on a Windows environment and are networked. The desktop menu offers the following sources: Internet- Internet access is available for academic use on all of the computers. First Search - an online link to the Illinois State Library site of First Search. (linked from school computers) This site provides access to full-text articles in science, humanities, education and business. SIRS- SIRS Researcher Online -(linked from school computers) provides thousands of full-text articles from 800 sources related to social issues within the disciplines of earth, life, physical, and applied sciences and issues of historical, economic and political note. This database may also be accessed from your home computer with school user name and password. SIRS Government Reporter- Government Reporter provides easy access to full-text government documents including U.S. Supreme Court Decisions, historic documents, country background notes, and government directories. SIRS Renaissance- Renaissance contains perspectives on the Arts & Humanities. Full-text articles and graphics cover topics such as Architecture & Design; Culture, Film, Radio, Music, Performing Arts, Philosophy & Religion, and Visual Arts. Newsbank- Full text covering social, economic, environmental, government, sports, the arts, health and science issues and health journals dating to 1986. There are complete full-text content of local and regional news from the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Tribune RedEye Edition(IL) and the Chicago Tribune Historical Archive.
